Police out in full force for Telkom Knockout Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida

General tickets sold out within two hours for the Telkom Knockout semi-final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, beating the previous record of two-and-a-half hours for the 2014 MTN8 final between the sides in Durban.

SAPS on Tuesday arrested four people selling fake tickets, a criminal offence under the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act (SASREA), established in 2010.

SAPS colonel lieutenant Thulani Zwane insists the police have safety and security covered for the match.

"We have arrested four on Tuesday who were found selling tickets at the workshop here in Durban," he said.

"Those four individuals have appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court yesterday [Wednesday] and their cases are ongoing. The police will be working very hard, especially our crime intelligence, to find those individuals who are selling fake tickets.

"We urge people not to buy those fake tickets. They must ensure when they buy them they buy legal tickets. And selling tickets after you have bought them is not acceptable, because that person will be buying outside of the face value. But I can assure you that police will be all over the place, inside and outside the stadium. We are very much ready for this game.

"The message is, people should not come with things that are not acceptable, because those who arrive with unlicensed stuff and do things that are against the law obviously they'll be arrested. There'll be people who'll be searching and those who will be arrested will be sent to the police station, and will have to see when they are going to the Magistrate Court. I can assure you they'll be arrested."

In April fans went on the rampage at the venue after Chiefs lost a Nedbank Cup semi-final to Free State Stars, causing injuries to 18 people and damage of around R2.6 million to the stadium.

Zwane says police are ready in case of a pitch invasion.

"We are ready for whatever that can happen," he said.

He added: "We just urge people to behave. Those who are found on the wrong side of the law will be arrested. We just want people to behave themselves; behave accordingly, work with the police especially and know that as you can come to the stadium you'll first have to be searched."

Fans with tickets are eligible for discounted travel on trains from Umlazi and KwaMashu to the stadium, while there will be public viewings of the game in the eThekwini like during the 2010 FIFA World Cup on home soil.

The Durban Fan Park will be at New Beach at Dr Pixley ka Seme Street, formerly known as West Street. Other public viewings are at Max's Lifestyle in Umlazi, Artizen Lounge in KwaMashu and Comfort Zone in Clermont.
