Orlando Pirates news: Milutin Sredojevic not turning blind eye to faults ahead of Soweto Derby

Pirates returned to winning ways after the FIFA break with a 1—0 victory over The Chilli Boys, while also retaining their hopes of silverware in the Telkom Knockout last Saturday.

The result was also important to garner confidence and momentum heading into the all-important Absa Premiership clash against arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs coming up this weekend.

Sredojevic, who is well aware of the significance of the Soweto Derby, accepted the value of the result but insisted they could not read too much into it.

“Everyone knows what the Derby means and entering into it with a clean sheet from the week before is good, but in the same moment we cannot be blind,” said 'Micho'.

“We have eyes and we saw what happened on the field. We believe that we walked a very tight rope, that in any moment things could have happened differently to how it ended.

“But I want to give credit to our players that they worked very hard, limited time and space, and provided numbers to put the opponent under pressure by pushing them into situations not to shoot or convert.

“It’s good that we kept the clean sheet as one positive, and when the match was balanced, we proceeded to score the goal.

“The most important aspect for us is that we have passed through in the cup competition, against a very well organised and good football-playing team like Chippa United.”

The Serb added that a number of crucial points need to be addressed ahead of this weekend’s tie, as they cannot afford to be caught with their pants down in front of a capacity crowd.

“We need to look really critically at the things because if we do not and keep ourselves blind, pretending as if everything was perfect, then we could hit a wall in front of 90 000 people on Saturday.

“So, there’s so many critical things to take care of. We have one week, and there’s no better injection of motivation than to win but still have critical things to look at and work on.”
