George Maluleka tips Reeve Frosler for big Kaizer Chiefs impact

Chiefs snapped up Frosler from Bidvest Wits on transfer deadline day last week, after he initially penned a pre-contract to join the Soweto giants at the start of next season.

The 21-year-old’s arrival has been met with plenty optimism even amongst the team itself, as Maluleka attests that he is one bright prospect given his quality and football intelligence.

“He’s a very young, talented boy with a big heart and I’ve obviously seen him at Wits – he’s a very good player, with good quality and technique, and I believe you can have all of those but without the football brains then it’s kind of pointless – and that he does, he’s very intelligent,” said Maluleka, who has also occasionally donned the captain’s armband for Chiefs this season.

“So, he’s already gelled in very easily amongst the players, and he’s going to make a very big impact [at the club]. We’ve seen a couple of his clips – [in a video session] they were showing us how he plays, and I think, with our formation it will suit him best, being a wing-back and he can also play as a third center-back.”

The move to bring Frosler in, as well as other tactical and technical tweaks made by Middendorp, is what has the 30-year-old midfield pivot believing this Saturday’s Soweto Derby will be different to their previous ones.

“[It’s evident] that a lot has changed since coach Ernst Middendorp has come in. With the coach’s tactics and style of play, and the changes of formations, I think he has played into our hands, and we’ve managed to do well," he pointed out.

“We’ve dominated most of our games thus far and going into this weekend’s one, I think it’ll be a close one because we’ve been playing a brand of football that is different than we had at the start of the season.”

Kick-off of the mammoth clash is scheduled for 15h30 at the FNB Stadium
