SA attacker scoops award in Portugal

South African attacker Kobamelo Kodisang has scooped the Portuguese Liga 2 player of the month award after a string of solid performance for his side in the second division of the Portuguese football.

Kodisang, who is spending the season on loan with Moreirense from parent club SC Braga B, contributed six goals and three assists in his 13 appearances to earn the August/September Player of the Month award.

The former Bidvest Wits forward was one of the stand-out performers in South Africa's Olympic squad and has also represented the junior national teams.

Questions were raised when Kodisang was a notable absentee in Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana squad for friendlies against Sierra Leone and Botswana in September, as well friendlies against Mozambique and Angola in November.

However, Broos insisted that the 23-year-old forward remains on the national team's radar and that he's in contention for a place in the Bafana squad tp take on Liberia in March 2023 for a crucial Afcon qualifier against Liberia.

"Okay, let him continue [doing well] and then we'll have a very good player in March, so I don't want to take Kodisang and replace another one, because the players who were there in September satisfied me, except some, but they satisfied me," Broos said in November when asked about Kodisang's exclusion.

"We have an eye on Kodisang and when he goes on like this, he certainly will be there in March."
