JUST IN: Pitso opens up on new move

Pitso Mosimane has shed some light into his latest move as the the three-time CAF Champions League winner and his technical team were confirmed to be joining Saudi Arabian side, Abha Club.

Mosimane returns to what is becoming familiar territory, after his first successful stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli Saudi in 2022. During his first spell, Mosimane was tasked with guiding Al-Ahli back to the top flight.

This time around the 59-year-old will be fighting to ensure that his new club Abha, survives the relegation battle and keep their status in the Saudi Pro League. Mosimane and his technical team joined on a four-month deal. 

In a statement published by Mosimane's representatives, MT Sports Marketing, Pitso said: "I'm happy to be returning to Saudi Arabia with an exciting challenge awaiting. 

"Abha Club has had a quick rise to the Saudi Pro League, considering they were playing in the 3. Division just four seasons ago. Now as the club faces its toughest challenge yet, I am honoured that the Board has entrusted me with the task of keeping the team in the Pro League. 

The Saudi club also confirmed Mosimane's arrival with a video posted on their social media platforms. 

Abha sit 16th on the Saudo Pro League log table with just four wins from 16 matches and are winless in five matches.

MT Sports Marketing and Management is proud to announce that Coach Pitso Mosimane and his technical team are returning to Saudi Arabia as his appointment as the Head Coach of Abha Club in Abha, Saudi Arabia has been confirmed. 

The Saudi Pro League club will be led by Coach Pitso and his Technical Team consisting of Maahier Davids, Kabelo Rangoaga, Musi Matlaba, Kyle Solomon, and Goal Keeper Coach, Hamad Alyami for the remainder of the 2023/2024 season. 

Currently, Abha Club is facing a stern challenge as they are trying to avoid relegation (17' place) from the star-studded Roshn League. 

"I am happy to be returning to Saudi Arabia with an exciting challenge awaiting. Abha Club has had a quick rise to the Saudi Pro League, considering they were playing in the 3. Division just four seasons ago. Now as the club faces its toughest challenge yet, I am honored that the Board has entrusted me with the task of keeping the team in the Pro League. " said the well-renowned South African Coach, Coach Pitso Mosimane. 

With 15 games left of the season. Mosimane and his lethal technical team will lead their first league fixture in Abha on the 15' of February as players return from Asian Cup and AFCON tournaments. 

"We are confident that our coaches will work hard to ensure that the "Leaders of the South" defend their place in the Pro League. Coach Pitso Mosimane and his team's brand of excellence and deliverance of results will shine through", said MT Sports Managing Director, Moira Tlhagale.
