There are very few players who have achieved what the Mpumalanga-born star has achieved in his football career.
In 2012/13 Season , Mashego walked away with the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot Award following his 13 goals in the Absa Premiership.
The striker has won five league titles, two with Mamelodi Sundowns, one with Orlando Pirates and another two with SuperSport United, while he has also won the Telkom Knockout, MTN8 and CAF Champions League.
Growing up in Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga, Mashego was known for his dance moves for popular Kwaito group Trompies songs.
"I got the name when I was young man, while I was still at the farms in Praktiseer," Mashego tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"We used to like Trompies a lot, so we used to dance to their songs. There was this popular song in it they would often shout 'Hey Mahoota!' So every time when we were together we would dance to that song. And everyone started calling me 'Hey Mahoota!' cause I was doing some funny dance. So it just stuck then after that I became Mahoota.
"When I came here in Johannesburg the name became a national thing. It just grew into me. Obvious at that time we used to wear spotis [bucket hats] and so on, and All Star. If you owned a pair of All Star and a nice t-shirt you were a perfect pantsula. Obviously when I started playing professionally people started putting their own interpretation and concept into their name and said 'Yho this boy is a bell [car hooter].' So you just grow to love the nickname."
