Pule Ekstein on three PSL clubs' radar

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Hendrick 'Pule' Ekstein is set for a return to domestic football with at least three PSL clubs raising a hand of interest in his services.

Ekstein has spent the past two years playing his football in the Azerbaijan Premyer Liqa for Sabah FK and FK Sabail.

He suffered relegation this past season with Sabail, who finished bottom of the eight-team league and will now play in the Brinci Dasta [second tier league] next season.

Word reaching this website is that, with Ekstein back in the country after his contract in Azerbaijan ran out, three clubs have already enquired about his availability.

"There is one club in KwaZulu-Natal and two in Gauteng. It is all still in the preliminary stages, but chances are that he will be playing in the PSL in the new season. His priority is obviously to continue playing football like he has been doing in Azerbaijan," says a source.

The 30-year-old featured in 23 games in all competitions in 2020/21 with one goal and a single assist, while in his first year he played 25 games and netted five and providing for another four.

For five years in a row, Ekstein has now been able to feature in at least 20 games in each season.

He remains popular in domestic football having shown flashes of brilliance through his time at Chiefs after being recruited from the amateur ranks in the West Rand where he also played for teams in the mines where he worked.
