Pirates newcomer Roger Majafa evokes memories of Roger Feutmba

Majafa came on as second half substitute and quickly won the hearts of the Bucs faithful with his quick left foot and clinical passing.

The Mohlakeng-born midfielder is the latest of many Pirates first team players to have come through the ranks of Legodi's Africa Sport Youth Academy.

But for ‘Jazzy Queen’, Majafa brings back memories of a Mamelodi Sundowns legend, Roger Feutmba.

“It’s coincidental that he shares the same name as the great Roger Feutmba,” says Legodi, himself a former Sundowns star.

“They share many similarities in their footballing qualities. They both have a great left foot and are great passers of the ball.

“Majafa is an extremely gifted footballer and one of the best passers of the ball in the country. Unfortunately he was not used in the correct position at Polokwane City.

“Before he went to Polokwane City he wanted to play for Pirates so I am grateful that finally the chairman [Irvin Khoza] and Screamer Tshabalala granted him his dream to play for Pirates,” Legodi says.

Majafa, a 25-year-old former youth international, replaced Thandani Ntshumayelo in the 65th minute and lit up the otherwise disappointing 1-1 draw with Aces.

“Majafa was excellent, he came in and changed the game for us,” Pirates coach Eric Tinkler said.

“His movement offensively is very good. He doesn’t hide, he always looks for the ball and he created so many chances for us. I think he made a huge impact ... I'm happy for him because he works very hard at training.”
