Zungu was among the youngsters who once struggled with ill-discipline off the field, which affected his football at Usuthu.
His career was saved by coach Steve Barker when he took the player away from his comfort zone in Durban to Stellenbosch FC, where he managed to focus and excel in his career.
Speaking with media recently in Durban during an Adidas event, Zungu said being at Pirates has helped him understand the important of discipline on and off the field.
"Being at Orlando Pirates has taught me a lot of things. From AmaZulu, Stellenbosch to Orlando Pirates things have changed, the professionalism and the rules," Zungu said.
"Arriving at Pirates I saw as a player how to behave on and off the field, and it has changed me personally. I'm no longer the same."
Zungu is rarely playing at Pirates, which always creates many questions for new players in a team, but the midfielder is trying to use the situation to improve himself mentally.
"This club has huge pressure. If you've signed with Pirates, you must always be strong mentally to deal with the pressure of not getting game-time. When you are not playing people will always ask why you are not playing," he explained.
"There's pressure when not playing because of people in the streets and the pressure of winning when you are playing, so being at Pirates itshuge, you just have to work hard and be disciplines on and off the field."
Zungu also defended coach Josef Zinnbauer and said it is challenging for him to select the final eleven as everybody works very hard in training.
"There's always pressure from coach too on why he doesn't field certain players, but everything starts from training. For you to play, you have to work hard," he added.
"At Pirates we all work hard but we can't all play at the same time, that is the reality. Each and every one of us must deliver when a chance is given, there's no one relaxed and guaranteed to be in the starting line-up, we all have to fight."
