'I bought a new car to celebrate signing with Sundowns'

In this edition of My First, KickOff has tracked down former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Carlo Scott to discuss his early life experiences.

Scott shares how the financial support from the Motsepe family helped him buy a brand-new car outright.

My First School:

"I attended Mitchell's Plain Primary School. On my first day, I was crying because I didn't want to go to school. I was probably just used to being at home and didn't know what to expect. I was six years old at the time."

My First Kiss:

"I was 11 years old when I got my first kiss from a girl I liked. We were at a party at a friend's house, and the soul jam was playing. I asked her to dance with me, and that provided the perfect opportunity for my first kiss."

First Favourite Club:

"I never used to watch local football until a certain point. I only followed World Cups and old documentaries about Pele. To this day, I remain a fan of Brazil.

"Later on, I became a Manchester United supporter. I admired their captain Bryan Robson, so the Red Devils remain my team, unfortunately."

My First Soccer Boots:

"My parents bought me a pair of Adidas soccer boots, but all the kids wanted Jomo Sono King boots from Puma. Eventually, I ended up getting a pair of Jomo Sonos too."

My First Goal:

"I was just 17 and playing with Cape Town Spurs when I scored my first goal against Vaal Professionals. We won that game 2-0. It was more than 20 years ago."

My First Individual Award:

"In the same game against Vaal Professionals, I was voted Man of the Match. I do remember that was the game when Ian Gorowa got injured. I came on with David Modise, and I not only scored but also created another goal."

My First Trophy With A Club:

"I won my first trophy in 1999, the Iwisa Charity Spectacular with Ajax Cape Town."

My First Car:

"When I joined Sundowns, I bought a brand-new Golf 4 GTi. I didn't worry about the cost and paid cash. At that time, it didn't seem expensive to me, though I've since forgotten how much it actually cost. It was a small celebration for signing with Sundowns."
