Mxolisi Macuphu wants to join SuperSport United after Bidvest Wits status sale

One of Bidvest Wits' strikers has made it clear that he wants to join SuperSport United after being caught cold by the club's status sale.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzhivhandila have bought the PSL status of the 99-year-old club, as confirmed by this website and announced on social media last night.

Last season Mxolisi Macuphu enjoyed his loan spell at the Tshwane club but had to return to Wits following Lehlohonolo Majoro's departure to AmaZulu.

"I still had an option with the team so now that things are like this I need to sit down and negotiate a way forward," Macuphu tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"I was still happy at Wits. Not playing is part of the game. I was happy at the club. If I wanted to make a move they had to initialise the move and say 'okay you can move now'.

"If the deal goes through, yes, I would love to play for them [SuperSport United], that's in fact no lie. I would love to go back to SuperSport if the team gets sold.

"But they will be overwhelmed you know, a lot of players would want to go there and it will be another issue again. But to be honest, I would surely like to go there, there's no doubt I would like to go back there.

"I guess they have a reason why they are selling the club you know. But as players you are going to be shocked that we were not even told at the start of the year that the team might be sold you understand.

"We only learnt about it in the media. So it's shocking. Nobody has engaged us. We are still waiting for that as players you understand."

Asked if as players they thought about approaching the management to find out if what they saw in the media was true, Macuphu affirmed.

"Obviously our captain [Thulani Hlatshwayo] has done that. We have given him that mandate to ask them, and they have given him an answer that they will let us know when everything has been sorted out. So we are still waiting for that."

'Figo' says as players they have lost the courage to train due to being insecure about their jobs.

"Obviously it won't be there [the desire]. I mean we are talking about people's futures and careers. So it will be difficult to continue having the same drive you had. The first time you hear that the team is for sale, you think about your future."

This website contacted Matsantsanta CEO Stan Matthews to find if they have any interest in the striker.

"He is a player we are speaking to," Matthews says. "He had a good spell with us last season and we made Wits an offer for him to come permanently and they rejected it.

"Obviously we have made signings since then so it's something we are looking at for next season, and we will discuss with the coaching staff."
