The competition serves as a reserve league to the 16 clubs in the Absa Premiership.
The clubs that will participate in the opening festival at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi are Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United, Bloemfontein Celtic, Highlands Park, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates.
Defending champions Arrows will battle it out with Celtic in the opening fixture on Saturday, September 10. Kick-off is at 10h00. This will immediately be followed by a clash between Gauteng giants Wits and Chiefs at 12h00.
The next day Maritzburg will be looking to maintain the good form which saw them finish fourth in last season’s competition when they host newcomers Highlands at 10h00. Later, Sundowns, runners-up in the first two MDC seasons, will square up against Pirates in the last match of the opening block of fixtures. Kick-off is at 12h00.
The PSL has also announced that the last block of fixtures will kick off simultaneously on Saturday, 25 February 2017.
