AmaZulu advanced to the semi-final of the KZN Premier’s Cup after seeing off Golden Arrows 3-2 at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Saturday.
The start to the match didn’t lack goal-mouth activity and had Usuthu raced in front in the 14th minute through a cleverly worked finish from Namibian Riaan Hanamub.
Although, the advantage was cut short five minutes later as new signing Sede Dion drew Abafana Besthende level and opened his account for the club.
Usuthu regained momentum and went back in front through recent addition Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, but Siyanda Mthanti popped up and levelled moments later.
Ngwenya came through for Arthur Zwane’s men once more and restored their control with a stern finish on the brink of halftime.
Following the second half, Usuthu and Abafana Besthende went looking for more goals but were unable to get in as it finished 3-2.
Durban City 2-1 Milford
Durban City came from a goal down to overcome Milford 2-1 and set-up a final with AmaZulu in the day’s second semi-final.
The boys from the Motsepe Foundation Championship hit the ground running and were ahead in the opening stages through Khanyisa Radebe.
Having trailed at the break, Durban City bounced back and clawed themselves on even terms courtesy of Samkelo Maseko.
The Team of Choice then took full control of proceedings as new signing Trevor Mokwena pounced to open his account on debut.
City were able to hold onto the lead amidst the pressure from Milford and gave new coach Gavin Hunt a perfect start in the reigns.
