Kaizer Chiefs forward Dumisani Zuma enjoyed the feeling of scoring his first goal for the club

The former Bloemfontein Celtic player, who has made 11 appearances for the Soweto giants this season, bagged his first goal for the club in a 1-0 victory over Ajax Cape Town on December 16, a big win for the side as they look to keep up with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The goal will no doubt give Zuma confidence going forward, especially with new striker Leonardo Castro joining the team in January.

“I will continue working hard. I want to keep scoring to improve the chances of us lifting trophies,” he told Amakhosi's website.

“I want to thank the supporters for pushing us to the limit. I also wish that everybody has a safe and enjoyable festive season.”

The goal against the Urban Warriors was Zuma’s first goal since May 2016, when he was still a Phunya Sele Sele player.

“It started with George Maluleka’s pass to Gustavo Paez. I was in an awkward position, but I saw their goalie was off his line and I decided to take a shot. That’s how I scored,” he said.

“I was so happy when I saw the net rattled. I got lost in the excitement and only realised what the goal meant to the supporters when I saw the recordings afterwards.”

His uncle, who is not even an Amakhosi supporter, was one of the first people to congratulate him.

“My uncle is not really a Chiefs supporter, but he was among the first to express his happiness for me scoring that goal. He sent me a long text message that got me in tears of joy.”

Amakhosi will start 2018 with a tough match away to SuperSport United on January 6 at Mbombela Stadium. Coach Steve Komphela will know that he has just five months to win a trophy and save his job. His contract expires at the end of June.
