Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has promised AmaKhosi fans a return of he glory days

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has promised the Amakhosi faithful a return to the glory days as Chiefs prepare for the upcoming DStv Premiership 2022/23 season.

Once a dominant force in South African football, Chiefs have been hot and cold in recent times. The Soweto club last held silverware in 2015 under Stuart Baxter.

Between then and now, four different coaches have held the helm and the club has come within touching distance of a trophy twice - finishing second in the 2019/20 league season and failing in the final of the CAF Champions League against Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly the following season.

As assistant coach Zwane begins his reign as head coach, the club has vowed to bring back the glory days to Phefeni.

"We promise you that the current squad will make you happy," Zwane re-assured club supporters at a supporters event on Sunday.

On Monday, several Chiefs players also took to social media to pledge their commitment to the club's revival under the hashtag #KCFreshRevival.

The same sentiments are shared inside the club. Zwane is understood to enjoy massive backing from the club's hierarchy and within the squad.

A source close to the club has described the mood at the Kaizer Chiefs Village as 'more unified than ever in recent weeks'.

Chiefs will have their first chance to follow through with their promise when they travel to Chatsworth on Saturday, 6 August to take on 2022 KZN Premier's Cup winners, Royal AM.
