Following Kaizer Chiefs' decision to retire the No. 20 jersey formerly worn by Howard Freese, here is a look at some of the other retired numbers in South African football.
On Thursday, Kaizer Chiefs honoured former captain Freese by retiring the No. 20 strip he wore during his illustrious career with the Amakhosi in a ceremony that saw him become just the second player in the club's history to receive a tribute of this nature.

The former defender follows in the footsteps of Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo, whose achievements and contributions to the club were similarly recognised when the No. 15 jersey was retired upon him ending his playing career.
Meanwhile, domestic rivals Orlando Pirates have also retired three jersey numbers of their own, including the No.1 shirt worn by the late Senzo Meyiwa, the No. 13 of Clifford Moleko and the famous No. 10 strip once occupied by legendary midfielder Jomo Sono.
The Buccaneers also retired the No. 22 jersey following the untimely death of striker Lesley Manyathela, who passed away following a motor vehicle accident in 2003 just months after winning the Golden Boot award.
Mamelodi Sundowns and now-defunct Ajax Cape Town also paid tribute to fallen legends by retiring the No. 16 and No. 21 jerseys in honour of the late Anele Ngcongca (whose jersey was also retired by KRC Genk) and Cecil Lolo, respectively.
Note: The retirement of jersey numbers applies only to domestic football due to CAF regulations which require players to wear jerseys 1-30 in CAF competitions.
