Swallows gave Thabo Matlaba a rare start in defence, with Sifiso Hlanti dropped from the side that clipped the might of Kaizer Chiefs, whilst Arrows welcomed back Divine Lunga from suspension.
The Dube Birds showed their intentions 20 minutes in through Zaphaniah Mbokoma, who made the most of a defensive mix-up from Sifiso Mlungwana and Velemseni Ndwandwe.
Ndwandwe looked to bring his side level minutes later from a free-kick by Lunga, but was unable to find the accurate connection as the chance went astray.
Abafana Besthende did level matters a minute from the half-hour mark when a free-kick from the edge of the area by Nduduzo Sibaya went around the wall and beyond Virgil Vries.
The two sides pushed everyone forward before halftime in light of the grabbing the lead, but the first half finished all square.
Swallows eagerly pushed for a bright start to the second half following balls in and around the final entry of the field, but the host managed to avert the danger.
A double substitution on the 61st minute mark saw the Dube Birds remove Kamohelo Mahlatsi for Joseph Mhlongo and Given Thibedi for Sammy Seabi.
Mhlongo, who netted the winner against Chiefs from the bench, looked to make it two goals in two matches in the final quarter but was smothered by Mlungwana.
Both sides threw everything on the line in pursuit of the winner as fulltime loomed, but in the end it finished 1-1 leaving the outfits to their unbeaten start in the league.
