Golden Arrows survived a late onslaught from Chippa United to secure a 3-2 victory at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Sazi Gumbi was given his debut by Arrows and Saziso Magawana earned a starting berth too, as Roscoe Pietersen, Shaquille Abrahams and Etiosa Ighodaro were among the changes for Chippa.
Abafana Besthende made the breakthrough following a pretty even start when Ntsikelelo Nxadi got on the end of a low free-kick and headed in at the near post before the 20th minute spell.
The home team extended their tally five minutes later after Nduduzo Sibiya fired in from the penalty spot following a foul by Justice Chabalala on Knox Mutizwa.
Chippa started to come alive following the underwhelming start and had the host pinned back as balls around the area from notably Sirgio Kammies caused nervousness.
Abafana Besthende didn't lose confidence and grabbed a third inside halftime when Pule Mmodi stayed ahead of the last man following a counter-attack and tapped in the subsequent supply.

The Chilli Boys looked to pull one back ahead of the halftime period through Ighodaro following a move at the near post, but he was smothered.
Chippa unleashed a triple change after the break in Azola Matrose, Aviwe Mqokozo and veteran forward Andile Mbenyane before Ighodaro snapped an early opening.
The away team kept pumping balls forward and reduced the deficit on 62 minutes when the self-same Ighodaro tucked in a loose ball after Nkosingiphile Gumede fumbled a rasping shot.
However, Arrows could've had a fourth two minutes later through a low teasing shot by Velemseni Ndwandwe following a cutback but goalkeeper Sipho Chaine parried.
At the other end, Chippa got a second moments apart when Ronald Pfumbidzai pounced on another spill by Gumede and slotted into the roof of the net.
The Chilli Boys had their tails up late on pushed the host back with the aim of an equaliser, but it was to be as Arrows emerged victorious.
