DStv Premiership match report Golden Arrows v Baroka 03 March 2021

Golden Arrows missed the chance to leapfrog Swallows in fourth place in the DStv Premiership after they were held to a goalless draw by Baroka on Wednesday evening.

Arrows made five changes, as they recalled Matome Mathiane, Gladwin Shitolo, Divine Lunga, Ntsako Makhubela and Lindokuhle Mtshali while Bakgaga were unchanged.

Joslin Kamatuka came close to giving Baroka an early lead in the 12th minute after he had space to have a strike from the edge of the box but shot-stopper Sifiso Mlungwana parried his effort away towards the bottom corner.

Abafana Bes'thende were growing in the game half-way through the first stanza but they just lacked the final pass upfront.

However, Makhubela had a wonderful chance to break the deadlock for Mandla Ncikazi's charges on the stroke of half-time after a delicate chip by Shitolo towards the back post but he guided his header over the bar from close range.

The sides were cagey in the opening exchanges of the second stanza and Evidence Makgopa came the closest to breaking the deadlock for Matsimela Thoka's charges in the last 18 minutes with a powerful strike from outside the box that missed the post slightly wide.

Arrows were pressurising their visitors in the closing phase, searching for the winner but the Limpopo side kept them at bay as the sides shared the spoils in the end, with Abafana Bes'thende remaining in fifth place while Baroka also did not move in ninth place on the log.
