DStv Premiership match report Baroka FC v Cape Town City 11 December 2021

The host missed forward Evidence Makgopa because of injury, but welcomed back Richard Mbulu from suspension whereas City brought back Surprise Ralani in attack.

However, despite a lively opening the Citizens nearly trailed the host through the head of Mbulu from a deep-rooted corner-kick minutes gone but the forward missed target.

City came into their own again following the midway period and watched a powerful drive outside the area from Fagrie Lakay stung the gloves of goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele looked for a strong finish to the first half though and came close through Mbulu, but he couldn't beat the Citizens defence.

With substitutions either side following halftime, Bakgaga missed a golden chance when Mbulu saw his penalty attempt beaten away by goalkeeper Hugo Marques off Nathan Fasika's hand ball.

The missed spot-kick seemed to fire up the host and a loose shot on the edge of the area from substitute Breyzel Goldstone followed but Marques saved emphatically.

City started to regain momentum inside the closing periods of the match and had Mduduzi Mdantsane going wide from a looping attempt at the back-post.

At the other end, Mbulu closed-in once again through a free-kick on the edge of the six-yard area but he went over the top of target.

There were chances in succession for Bakgaga and the Citizens to go ahead in the latter exchanges, but neither capitalised thus left matters goalless.
