Chelsea suffer massive Kurt Zouma blow

The centre-back started in his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, but was stretchered off just before the hour mark after landing awkwardly having jumped up for a challenge.

Visibly in tremendous pain, the 21-year-old defender was sent for scans, with the club on Monday revealing the extent of the damage.

"Chelsea Football Club's medical team have diagnosed that Kurt Zouma sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament during yesterday's Premier League game against Manchester United,” a statement released by the club read.

"Kurt will undergo surgery in the next 48 hours and is expected to be out for approximately six months."

Despite the disappointing news, Zouma seemed in positive spirits as he left a message on Twitter for his fans.

“Scan today has shown I injured my ACL,” he wrote. “I will have surgery this week will come back stronger. Thank you everyone for all the messages.”

The young talent, who has started 21 of Chelsea’s 25 games this season, will now miss out on international duty with France, who are hosting this year’s continental championships at the end of the current season.
