The 19-year-old Hellenic and Camps Bay product made his City bow in a 1-0 win over Swaziland's Young Buffaloes in a CAF Confederation Cup first leg, preliminary round tie.
Nana Akosah-Bempah's late strike handed the visitors all three points and also gave the Citizens confidence leading up to the showdown with Chiefs.
Roberts, who hails from Lotus River, was delighted to feature for Benni McCarthy's side.
“It’s my first game for the club and I will always remember and cherish this one,” Roberts told snl24.com/kickoff.
“The game was good and competitive. Buffaloes is not a bad team. They are a very experienced team but they were also very defensive. Overall I think it was a good experience for me.”
With plenty at stake still for City with regards to the league and cup competitions, a lot will rest on McCarthy’s ability to rotate his players and keep them fresh till the end of the season.
With Amakhosi waiting in the wings on Saturday, it will be interesting to see which team McCarthy will field this time round.
The talented midfielder says it’s any player's dream to face the Glamour Boys but knows it is tough to break into City's starting line-up given the competition offered by the likes of Teko Modise and Roland Putsche.
“I hope I have done enough to convince my coach that I could be played against Chiefs,” Roberts said. “But I know I must work hard on training this week and every week, you know. I have to learn a lot still as well but I’m willing and prepared for work hard.”
