snl24.com/kickoff can reveal that former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet is set to turn out for DStv Premiership club Cape Town City next season.
Keet, who spent the last few months playing for GladAfrica championship outfit Cape Umoya United, is set to join City on a three-year deal.
The move follows the departure of Peter Leeuwenburgh, who has returned to the Netherlands to join Eredivisie side FC Groningen ahead of the new season.
According to a source close to Citizens, Keet will not be continuing in the lower division and is set to return to the top flight to try and reclaim his Bafana Bafana spot.
"The deal is almost done. They are just ironing out a few things before the club makes an announcement," the source says.
The Citizens boss John Comitis confirmed during a press conference in Cape Town on Monday that the club already finalised two deals to help reinforce their squad for next season.
Keet told this publication earlier this week that he is likely to be back in the Premiership next season with his agent having warned him of offers.
"I think so, yes, it shouldn't be too much of a problem [to move away from Cape United]. My contract is until the end of June," Keet responded when quizzed over his future.
"We have to see, my agent has mentioned that there's been a few PSL teams but we'll see what happens and what we're going to do.
"We've been in contact with a few teams but we don't know what we're going to do yet. I know there are a lot of options at the moment. So we have to see what transpires and what's going to be best for us."
When contacted for an update, the 31-year-old was unavailable at the time of publshing.
