Grobler & Saile boost SuperSport's survival hopes

SuperSport United gave their survival hopes a massive boost with a 2-0 win over Chippa United on Saturday night.

The hosts started Pogiso Sanoka, Aphiwe Baliti and Lyle Lakay in place of Neo Rapoo, Lebohang Maboe and Vincent Pule following their 1-1 draw at Polokwane City.

Matsatsantsa made the perfect start in the opening quarter when Bradley Grobler rose high in the centre of the box to head in Lyle Lakay’s pin-point cross.

The Chilli Boys fancied a route back a few moments later as Craig Martin found space around the area to get goal-side, but he went well off the mark.

Chippa were required to make a substitution three minutes past the half-hour mark and saw Bienvenu Eva Nga come on for the injured Seun Ndlovu.

Matsatsantsa missed a golden chance to grab a second goal late on when Christian Saile raced clear on goal from Grobler's pass but he fired straight at goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Saile made amends two minutes into the second half after he picked up a pass from Nyiko Mobbie and curled one into the back of the net.

Chippa refused to lose shape a few minutes gone and almost halved the tally through a snap shot from a clever angle by Giovanni Philander, but he dragged wide of the mark.

With time running out, the Chilli Boys missed a golden chance to pull one back late on when Justice Chabalala nodded high and wide from a corner by Malebogo Modise.

However, Chippa ended the match with ten players in additional time as Sirgio Kammies got his marching orders for a dangerous challenge on Baliti, who was able to return to the field of play.

Confirmed line-ups:

SuperSport United: Goss, Mobbie, Hlatshwayo, Moralo, Lakay, Okon,  Sanoka, Saile, Ndlovu, Baliti, Grobler

Subs: Mbanjwa, Mbangossoum, Ndebele, Quaicoe, Pule, Poggenpoel, Ayer, Dzvukamanja, Nurkovic
