Kwayiba fires Chippa back to winning ways

Chippa United bounced back from the big loss over the weekend to defeat Cape Town City 2-0 in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday night.

City coach Muhsin Ertugral handed recalls to Jaedin Rhodes and Kayden Francis after the loss to Magesi FC, while 16-year-old Emile Witbooi was named on the bench.

The home side dominated in the early stages of the first half, with Tshegofatso Nyama and Thabo Nodada going close with efforts from distance in the opening 15 minutes.

There was a scare for the home side after 29 minutes after the Chilli Boys found the back of the net, but the celebrations were cut short due to the assistant referee flagging for an offside.

That proved to be the final bit of goal-mouth action in the first period as the two sides went into the halftime break square, with Chippa's Stanley Nwabali the busier of the two goalkeepers.

That all changed in the second half when the Chilli Boys took the lead as the highly sought-after Sinoxolo Kwayiba found the back of the net with his fifth league of the season.

The Citizens pushed for an equaliser but ended up conceding a second goal with 20 minutes left on the clock, with Kwayiba completing his brace on the night to give the Chilli Boys a two-goal cushion.

The win takes Chippa above City into ninth spot, while Erturgal's charges have dropped to 10th position.
