Absa Premiership match report Stellenbosch v Maritzburg United 25 August 2019

Stellenbosch FC and Maritzburg United shared the spoils in an Absa Premiership clash on Sunday afternoon.

Former Kaizer Chiefs Ryan Moon made his Stellenbosch debut, while Deolin Mekoa was the visitors only change from their 1-1 draw against Highlands Park.

The Team of Choice made a promising opening, with Thabiso Kutumela firing wide of target following a ball through the area.

Stellenbosch searched for their first ever top flight goal on 17 minutes, but Richard Ofori's reflexes kept out Jarrod Moroole's close-range effort.. Sibusiso Mthethwa edged towards the opener eight minutes to halftime, but Ofori thwarted the defender's powering header.

In an attempt to break the deadlock, Stellies coach Steve Barker made a change at the break, with Leletu Skelem coming in for Diego Franco in the middle of the central area.

The Pietermaritzburg side displayed more promise in the opening minutes, as Kutumela shot past the far post following a loose ball in the area, before a wonderful move  saw Daylon Claasen denied by the upright.

Eric Tinkler installed his first substitution towards the final quarter of the second half, as Judas Moseamedi replaced the hard-running Kutumela.

Rushine De Reuck almost stole in the points in the final three minutes after heading goal-wards from a corner, but De Jongh's head deflected the effort back into play.

Despite the late push from both sides, the spoils were shared on the day, leaving both winless after three matches played.
