Absa Premiership match report Golden Arrows v Bidvest Wits 11 May 2019

Bidvest Wits clinched the CAF Confederation Cup spot after beating Golden Arrows 1-0 on the final day of the Absa Premiership season..

Abafana Bes'thende made two alterations from their loss against Mamelodi Sundowns, as Siyabonga Dube and Lerato Lamola came in to the fold while the Clever Boys brought in Darren Keet, Granwald Scott and Gabadinho Mhango.

After a quiet start, Lehlohonolo Majoro almost opened the scoring for Gavin Hunt's charges in the 22nd minute with a glancing header inside the box that missed wide following a great delivery from Sfiso Hlanti, before Deon Hotto was denied by Arrows shot-stopper Maximilian Mbaeva.

While Steve Komphela's charges struggled to carve out chances, Thabang Monare had a glorious chance to break the deadlock for Wits with six minutes before the break after being played in by Majoro,  but he struck his effort over the bar.

Mhango finally broke the deadlock for Hunt's men a minute into the second stanza with a fierce strike past Mbaeva.

The game got stretched after the hour-mark and Wits coach Gavin Hunt was in need of fresh legs as they made a double substitution in the 67th minute with Edwin Gyimah and Gift Motupa replacing Scott and Majoro.

Arrows were dangerous on counter-attacks especially through Knox Mutizwa in the latter stages of the second half, but they were unable to trouble Keet between the sticks.

In the end, Wits had done enough to silence the visitors and claim the spoils, which secures Confederation Cup football next season.
