Kambala opens up on DStv Prem return

Having recently completed a move to Polokwane City, Manuel Kambala has opened up on his long-awaited return to the DStv Premiership.

KickOff reported that Kambala had completed a move to newly promoted Polokwane City, putting pen to paper on a one-year-deal with the option to extend.

City were not the only Premiership side monitoring Kambala, with Royal Am having shown initial interest before talks of a deal collapsed due to Thwihli Thwahla's transfer ban.

Kambala then briefly return to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Magesi before City came knocking.

"I'm feeling good, excited to start," Kambala told KickOff.

"It's always great to be back in the topflight, you know the quality and competition is higher. it's also good for myself and family as well. At 31, Kambala is approaching the twilight of his career, but the midfielder still feels he has plenty more in the tank.

"Yes [I still feel I can compete], my confidence is always high. I know I can play, I know I can give something to my new team, I know I can cut it if I believe and work hard.

"My first impressions are that Polokwane City is a very good team with lots of quality, I think they have shown that in the first few games and you have to try and add to that.

Kambala last featured in the Premiership with Baroka in the 21/22 season when the Limpopo outfit finished bottom of the log table and were subsequently relegated.

The Mozambican international is also somewhat famous within the football corridors for scoring the goal that essentially denied Kaizer Chiefs the league title in 2020, earning him the nickname 'Lord Kambala' and 'Chiefs Slayer' among Amakhosi's opposition supporters.
