Moroka Swallows Zeca Marques confident ahead of Orlando Pirates match

The Birds were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup at the weekend, but Marques says they are concentrating on the Premiership anyway.

“We respect the Nedbank Cup as one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country,” he says. “We always want to do well and win at least one trophy a season but now our priority is to do well in the League.

“I don’t remember Pirates losing two games in succession and I believe it is going to be a tough game against them tonight.”

Bucs have in fact lost two matches in succession this season – but only once, losing 3-0 to SuperSport in the MTN8 and then to Swallows in the League by the same margin.

Meanwhile, Swallows may have to do without Georgi Nergadze, who picked up the injury against SuperSport and had to be stretchered off the field after 24 minutes.

The Georgian defender sat on the sidelines at training yesterday.

“He didn’t train yesterday and we allowed him to rest,” Marques says. “We are going to assess his injury again today and will only make a call this evening if he will play against Pirates.”
