Orlando Pirates DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) head coach Joseph Makhanya has explained the reasoning behind his players' much-criticised showboating during the Young Bucs' win over Sekhukhune United.
Pirates' DDC team set tongues wagging across social media when footage emerged of the club's players showboating during a 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United over weekend.
Showboating or 'Kasi Flavour', as it's more locally known as, has always divided South African football followers, players and coaches. Many have already come out to criticise the the audacious stunts.
However, the team's coach Makhanya hs explained the reasoning behind his players' showboating.
"It's a form of an ice breaker when you're playing this game," Makhanya told SuperSport TV's analyst after the match.
"It's an ice breaker because [sometimes] the game becomes tense, if you have players that are tense, you need someone who is going to break the ice so that everyone can get their confidence back.
"So maybe we get our confidence in different types of situations or by doing different things. They [Pirates DDC team] are a confident team, so if they are showing confidence, I'm happy about it."
In his heyday, 'Dukuduku' himself dabbled in a bit of showboating here and there.
"I was that [showboating] type of player. As much as we want to respect the opposition, we are also worried about our confidence as well. How do we get our confidence?," the retired Buccaneers' winger added.
"In the first half I had to tell them to cut it out and to try and respect the game a little bit. The second half was a bit tense, if you check the second half it [ the match tempo] died a bit."

The Young Buccaneers' two goals came from Relebohile Ratomo, while the win takes Pirates to the top of the DDC log table.
"That tells you about the showboating. I'm done with the showboating debate because I feel that football is an expression. Yes, if they [opponents] take the ball and score, we will blame the players but at the end of the day, they [Pirates players] came to the field of play and tried to find solutions," Makhanya explained.
"So for them to find a solution, they need to do whatever that they can to get their confidence."
