Big decisions for Ouaddou on Pirates' attackers

With the start season just a week away, the jury is out on who is best to lead Orlando Pirates' attacking line. Here is a look at the Buccaneers' options.

The Soweto giants are set to kick off their 25/26 season with an MTN8 quarter-final against Polokwane City on Saturday, 2 August.

Ahead of that match, it remains to be seen who will be leading the Buccaneers' attacking line this season. Former coach Jose Riveiro had initially gone with striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who was top scorer a season prior with 16 league goals to his name.

However, the emergence of Evidence Makgopa saw the lanky striker gradually become more favoured for his link-up play, despite not scoring as many goals. Magkopa scored 10 goals in 39 appearances.

Not to be forgotten is Zakhele Lepasa, who did not play a single match last season due to an injury, according to the club.

The 27-year-old is embroiled in contract talks ahead of the new season and was not part of the squad that travelled to Spain for the Sea Robbers' pre-season camp.

Lepasa scored 10 goals in 23 appearances for Pirates in the 23/24 campaign.

Waiting on the wings is also Boitumelo Radiopane. The club's DDC graduate and scoring record holder in the Reserve league is struggling to find his footing under Jose Riveiro.

However, a change of coaches may mean a change of fortunes for the 22-year-old. Radiopane scored two goals from his 33 appearances last season.

The Moroccan-Frenchman will feature in his first competitive match as Pirates head coach on Saturday, 2 August, when the Buccaneers take on Polokwane City in the MTN8.

The match will be played at Orlando Stadium.
