Ndumiso Mabena: Bloemfontein Celtic not scared of Mamelodi Sundowns in Nedbank Cup final

Mabena has been one of the most consistent performers in the top league this season after featuring in 33 matches and contributing 11 goals and five assists in all competitions.

The 33-year-old now has a chance to cap off a good season with a Nedbank Cup medal and will be relied upon to breach the Sundowns defence at Orlando Stadium on Saturday (20h00).

Mabena leads a young and dangerous attack comprising Sera Motebang, Vusi Letsoalo, Phalane Lantshene‚ Tebogo Potsane and Andile Fikizolo, and believes they can match the firepower of The Brazilians.

"We are a team that likes to play the ball, where everyone always avails themselves on the field‚ and we have a high work-rate‚" Mabena said at Celtic's pre-match press conference.

"The system we are using comes from the training ground, and there is good understanding between the players because we know how the coaches want us to play.

"I know the system very well and most of us have been together for a while now‚ and that makes it easier for me to play where I am playing."

Pitso Mosimane's team will be coming to the final on a massive high following a dramatic Absa Premiership finish as they won the league on the final day.

The former Orlando Pirates striker is aware of what their opponents are capable of with the experience they have in big games.

"Everybody knows they are highly experienced because of their continuous participation in the CAF Champions League," Mabena stated.

"They also have a good bunch of players, which makes them a very good team. We all saw their experience in the way they managed their league games to eventually catch Kaizer Chiefs in the league.

"They did what they had to do and they managed to win the league title. That is because of the vast experience they have."

Mabena has been seen as one of those players who has managed to prove doubters wrong this season, but he gives his technical team the credit for his impressive campaign.

"I am fortunate to have played so many games and I think the rest that we got because of Covid-19 helped," he added.

"Maybe we were lucky to get that break in the middle of the season because I think it gave us a chance to recover as a team so that we can come back.

"Credit has to go to the physiotherapists‚ physical trainers and the coaches with the work they have done on us. We are professionals and we have to do the job."
