Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids not getting carried away after Mamelodi Sundowns scalp

Goals from Lebohang Maboe, Mxolisi Kunene and Fortune Makaringe guided the Team of Choice to victory over ten-man Sundowns on Sunday afternoon.

“I’m so proud of the players for the amount of effort they put in not only today but from the beginning of the season until now they have responded,” he told SuperSport TV in a post-match interview.

“I hope they can start believing how good they really are. I have been telling them since pre-season, start believing how good you really are and follow instructions to a tee that’s what it’s really all about.

“On the other hand, you got to give Downs credit. In the first half, they really closed us up. To concede in the first two minutes of the game was really disappointing.

“But that’s where I really want to commend my players, your head could easily drop there and they didn’t take it in a bad way but reacted positively all though we dropped off a bit and couldn’t unlock them but it was due to Pitso analyzing the spaces we wanted to use and you got to give him credit for that,” he added.

Youngster Mxolisi Kunene came off the bench and made an immediate impact, slotting home the second.

“Kunene has been unbelievable since the beginning of the season. Yes, there were a lot of understanding of our system and positioning but our players have been with it since last season where they understood the principles.

“Now Kunene is really coming through. I told him in the week, it’s unbelievable how he has been contributing in the last month or so and he is really trying to understand the goal and it’s a clear indication that he is there,” Davids said
