Pirates are set to host Chiefs behind closed doors at Orlando Stadium for their MTN8 semi-final first leg today, with plenty to look forward to in the encounter.
More than the two sides going in search of the advantage in the two-legged cup affair, several players will be looking to move up the appearance rankings where this particular fixture is concerned.
The current record is held by Amakhosi legend Siphiwe Tshabalala, who registered a total of 31 Derby appearances over a 11-and-a-half-year period, before moving to Turkey in 2018. He has since joined PSL rivals AmaZulu.
Joint-second behind 'Shabba' are two captains Happy Jele and Itumeleng Khune, with the former having levelled the latter's tally in the last Derby played back in February this year.
Khune, however, has been stuck on 27 appearances since 2018 due to an assortment of injuries, and it remains to be seen whether he will feature this afternoon ahead of Nigerian shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi.
For Jele though, another appearance this afternoon is more likely and he could become the outright second-most-capped player in the Derby while also stretching the record for a Pirates player to 28 matches.
Elsewhere, Erick Mathoho, Bernard Parker and Willard Katsande could add to their respective tallies and potentially move up the rankings as well.
Next weekend will see the two Soweto giants meet again in the semi-final second leg, while a guaranteed two more Derbies also beckon in the DStv Premiership campaign.
