Ronwen Williams on 'emotional' SuperSport clash

Williams is a graduate of the SuperSport United academy and spent his whole career with Matsatsantsa before last month's switch to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The shot-stopper had been a long-term target for Sundowns and was been heavily linked with a high-profile move across town in the past few transfer windows. He finally put pen to paper towards the end of July.

Since his arrival, Williams has been the standout favourite among the Sundowns goalkeepers but For the first time in his career, Williams came u against his former side when Sundowns took on SuperSport United in the MTN8 Quarter-finals.

Ultimately, the Brazilians were too strong Williams himself kept clear as Sundowns bulldozed past Matsatsantsa with a score of 2-0.

"There was a lot of emotion obviously, playing against Supersport for the first time in my life and in my career," he told the club's media after the game.

"But you know I had a job to do for my new team. I had to put emotions aside for the team and I'm just glad that we're going to the next round."

Williams joins Sundowns this season as part of several high-profile recruitments by the Chloorkop side including his teammate Sipho Mbule, Bafana international Bongani Zungu, highly rated Abubeker Nassir and Marcelo Allende.

Sundowns have been drawn against top-of-the-table Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semifinals but both Williams and Mbule may face their ex-teammates this Friday as SuperSport United host Sundowns in a DStv Premiership clash.
