Kaizer Chiefs gave Gavin Hunt a winning start after rallying from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Maritzburg United in the MTN8 quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon.
Samir Nurkovic's unavailability opened the door for Lazarous Kambole, and Eric Mathoho's injury meant a return for Ramahlwe Mphahlele in Gavin Hunt's first match in charge of Chiefs.
Maritzburg started more buoyant than the Soweto giants with balls into advancing areas for Thabiso Kutumela and Judas Moseamedi in particular having the opposing defence in two minds.

Chiefs were caught napping on 35 minutes when possession turnover high up the pitch released Kutumela who beat the offside trap for a cool finish past Khune.
Yagan Sasman was close to bringing the Amakhosi level within a minute after launching a left-footed shot from a tight angle, but Maritzburg goalkeeper Bongani Mpandle parried the effort.
The Team Choice were presented in on goal again two minutes to halftime as Bongokuhle Hlongwane rattled the underside of the crossbar off a thumping strike.
Chiefs were inches away from drawing level seconds from the break when Bernard Parker volleyed against the foot of the post following a left-footed shot on the turn before the veteran forward once again failed to profit with a blazing strike over the goal of Mpandle minutes later.
Maritzburg were once again spared by the woodwork on 67 minutes following a low shot from the edge of the area by Blom.
The Amakhosi levelled matters five minutes later when Sasman got on the end of a corner-kick from the left-side of the field to find the bottom-corner.
The comeback was completed 15 minutes from time after Sasman timed his jump in the area to head home Khama Billiat's ball from the right for his brace.
Chiefs leaned towards a third as the match began to wind down with Billiat going level with Mpandle, who parried the Zimbabwean to leave the hosts to victory and a semi-final spot.
