Mabhida on Saturday will host the MTN8 final for the second year in a row between SuperSport United and Cape Town City, and fifth since the mobile telecommunications company endorsed the competition in 2008.
Mabhida, which was built for the 2010 World Cup, has also staged the 2011, 2012 and 2015 Telkom Knockout finals and the 2013, 2014 and 2017 Nedbank Cup finals.
Mazibuko maintains Mabhida is not being done a favour by footballing authorities when it comes to hosting cup finals.
He says they simply enjoy competitive advantages.
"What we are doing right is a multitude of things. We are not being done a favour by the appointment of the venue for finals and major events; it is part of our strategy," Mazibuko told snl24.com/kickoff during the KZN Sports Awards at the Durban ICC in midweek.
"There are a few things that we are doing right. The first one is that we have an advantage, a competitive advantage compared to other stadiums. You can't move Durban from Durban. Where Durban is located speaks to an event, because if you bring your event to Durban, automatically it becomes a national event.
"How does that happen? It is that a person in Joburg, a person in the Eastern Cape, a person in Mpumalanga, a person in the Free State will find it easy to come to Durban because of the location.
"So you can't take that away from Durban, it's an advantage that we have, a competitive advantage. And what makes it more easy is that we have an infrastructure in place in terms of a transport network.
"If you are in Joburg you can decide the night before that tomorrow morning I'm going to Durban. You can either take a train, a flight, you can drive, you can take a bus, it's easy. You can be a group of friends over a social drink and decide that the five of us are now going to Durban for the match. And you get into the car and all you need is, if there are five of you, it's R300 each then you will be able to reach Durban.
"The other advantage that we have, the hotel network and infrastructure. There are other cities that have more hotels than Durban like Joburg and others. But the big advantage is the location of the stadium ... it is right in the city centre along beaches.
"You know if you are booked into the hotel in Durban you walk to the stadium. I'm not going to speak about other stadiums but there are other stadiums where if you have a big match like a final you need to arrive the night before and find accommodation. And for you to go to the three O'clock match you have to leave at nine O'clock in the morning for you to go to the match.
"I'm not mentioning names. But in Durban, you can leave the hotel and walk to the stadium without any issues. So these are competitive advantages that we have."
