Cape Town City playmaker Ayanda Patosi determined to deny SuperSport United another MTN8 title

Matsatsantsa prevailed on penalties last season after a 1-1 draw at full-time, with Patosi an unused substitute in that encounter as he watched Lyle Lakay and Judas Moseamedi fail from the spot as SuperSport walked away with the R8-million prize.

Patosi is adamant the Pretoria club won’t claim the winnings this year, and is quietly confident that should the final go to penalties once again, City are more than ready to repeat their semi-final penalty shootout performance against Mamelodi Sundowns.

“It’s a must to win the game,” Patosi said. “It’s very important for the city and the club. Last season we lost it, and we can’t lose R16million to SuperSport United.

“We pushing very hard and hoping to win it in 90 minutes, but if we go to penalties, the boys are ready. They are ready, are calm on the ball and you saw against Sundowns that we all scored, and I’m confident we’ll win either by penalties or after the 90 minutes, but hopefully after 90 minutes.”

As a Capetonian, Patosi feels a victory this evening will aid in inspiring local youngsters, and serve as motivation for them to achieve their goals.

“It will mean a lot for Cape Town people and for the boys from the townships, so they can see that they also can achieve what we are achieving here at City,” the Khayelitsha-born midfielder says. “That will motivate a lot of people here.”

The 25-year-old preached the need to work hard and remain unified in the final, and is confident his side will leave Durban victorious.

“We have to go there to work hard,” he said. “Whether they score first or not, we have to go there to work hard as a team, and the goals will come. When you work hard as a team, anything can happen. We will work hard in Durban, and then maybe we will bring home the cup … But we will bring the cup, so I’m not going to say maybe. We will bring the cup to Cape Town.”

Kick-off at Moses Mabhida Stadium is set for 19h00.
