City opened their 2017/18 league campaign with a 1-0 victory at Wits before repeating the scoreline in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals in the Mother City.
The sides will battle for a spot in the MTN8 final when they next meet at Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg on September 10 after the FIFA international break.
Hunt felt Wits were the much better side in their previous duel at Cape Town Stadium, but former Blackburn Rovers striker McCarthy feels otherwise.
McCarthy said: "What was the score? I always think the better side ends up on the winning side, no? I'm not too bothered, you can come here, you can have 70 percent of the ball as long as we do our job and we stop you from creating any chances where you can say you should have been 5-0 or 6-0 to the good. Has it been that game? No, it was pretty even stevens.
"I felt that we were in control all the time. Yeah, they had possession but all in the wrong places where they can't hurt us. For me that is all I wanted from the guys. I said they want to dominate midfield and overload the wide men. They want to get at our fullbacks one-versus-one, two against one. We were aware of that so we blocked them, what can they do? Put it in the channels and let their strikers run into no-man's land. So we got it covered and we said that their biggest strength is also their biggest weakness. They are probably the best team at scoring from set-pieces, but I said that's where we are gonna score from and now it's two out of two. If maybe other teams want to take note, you know?"
McCarthy, who made his Seven Stars playing debut under Hunt as a 17-year-old, sports a perfect start in his first head coaching role with additional defeat of Platinum Stars and Polokwane City.
The 39-year-old, however, insists effort from his men is what matters most.
"I'm happy as long as the guys give me effort. All I ask of them is to give me 100 percent, leave everything out there, don't save energy for next week. And also just play as a team, we are not an individual team. We want to do things together and they continue to do that. Obviously I said winning must be a habit, it must not be you win today and now you are on top of the world and tomorrow you accept a defeat. Winning must be a habit and it is starting to become our every day thing now, that's all I want from the guys," said Bafana Bafana's record scorer with 31 goals.
