During the lockdown period several GladAfrica Championship clubs cut salaries as a way to save funds while not playing and earning any income.
The Cane Cutters did not follow suit, believing it would have created a negative mood in the camp while they still have huge chance to win promotion.
"The promotion is a must for us to recover our loses in the last four months due to this lockdown," club official Nkosinathi Chili tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"It came at a very bad time for us as we were starting to recover, but we couldn't afford to cut any salaries like other teams.
"We prepared ourselves to dig deep in our pockets to make sure we avoid demoralising the camp by cutting wages."
Chili says as like any club they were affected by the lockdown but for them to earn promotion they have to make financial sacrifices like testing the players and paying the costs of the bio-bubble.
"We've spent already R100 000 to do tests and we still need to do them again before going to bio-bubble," Chili says.
"There are bookings that need to be done for accommodation. We prepared for that because our players must be in a good spirit."
Before the break, the KwaZulu-Natal side were recovering after losing their top spot to Ajax Cape town and Chili says they haven't given up on automatic promotion.
"Our first game against JDR will be very important for us to catch Ajax Cape Town," he admits.
"We are positive that we can still stop them but if that doesn't happen, we must get a promotion playoff place."
