Mshishi in huge continental factor ahead of final

After staying on the bench for the duration of the first leg of the Champions League final, interest will rain heavily on Themba Zwane for the second leg.

Zwane has been back in action since April and with his experience plenty focus will zoom on him for his latest trip to Cairo where Pyramids are the opponents in the fight for the trophy.

The veteran midfielder stands out for many reasons at Sundowns.

Besides being the longest serving player at the club, captain, and carrying the biggest influence in the dressing room, he has played the most CAF football at the club and is amongst the survivors from the 2016 winning squad.

The 35-year-old’s continental club football ‘roll call’ is at 85 appearances.

This is from a decade ago when he first played for The Brazilians in CAF club competitions.

Since then, he has piled up all the experience needed on the continent, which will come in handy on Sunday in Cairo.

Sundowns will call on those familiar with knowing how to play and manage such games which is where Miguel Cardoso will need to give Zwane minutes.

While he might not have what is needed to play from start to finish, Zwane knows how to influence games even when introduced in the second half.

The Brazilians will also have Thapelo Morena on 81 appearances on the continent.

Morena has been at Sundowns since August 2016 when he joined from Bloemfontein Celtic and while he didn’t get minutes in the successful 2016 campaign he was already at the club when the trophy was won.
