After Steve Komphela survived the reshuffle of the technical team at Mamelodi Sundowns, the club's former head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed his feelings.
Komphela was brought back by Sundowns in June this year, as a senior coach, to work alongside Mngqithi, following the departure of Rulani Mokwena.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach was one of only two technical members retained in the new era, including Kennedy Mweene, after Mngqithi was relieved of his duties along with Wendell Robinson.
Tongues have been wagging on how the ex-Bafana Bafana mentor survived the chop, with questions lingering on whether he still gets along with Mngqithi.
The erstwhile right-hand man of Pitso Mosimane has now opened up on the matter.
"No, no, I regard him as my brother, we're close. I don't have any issues with Steve, I just think it was the decision of the club to leave him behind and also, you must understand the club had just brought him back and if you bring somebody back who was having a job at Golden Arrows and now you must go again? That, for me, would have been very unfair," Mngqithi said in an interview on 947's MSW.
"And I commend the decision of the club in making sure that they are still humane enough to understand that it would not be easy that Steve would be at Golden Arrows, come to Sundowns, three, four months later you're back to the street. I don't think that would have been fair and I don't have an issue with that.
"I don't think in these conspiracy theories that maybe Steve did something behind my back and all that. I don't think that is true. People are just making [up] stories," the 53-year-old old added.
It remains to be seen how long Komphela will last at The Brazilians, as new head coach Miguel Cardoso has tagged along three assistants.
