Ali Meza completes latest move

Jose Ali Meza has accepted the offer from Venezuelan club Portuguesa FC after five months without a job paving the way for him to play continental football again.

Portuguesa finished third in Venezuela's top league and will play in the CONMEBOL Libertadores Play-Offs next season.

This will give Ali Meza another run in continental football after playing in the CAF Champions League while at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ali Meza spent the second half of last season with Maritzburg after agreeing to return to the same club that he had played for during his previous stint in the DStv Premiership.

Unfortunately, Ali Meza's efforts couldn't save The Team of Choice from sinking back to the first division after 15 consecutive years of playing topflight football.

While the former Venezuela youth international scored thrice, he was always a threat whenever on the field which ignited interest.

As the 32-year-old travelled to Argentina in June to sort out passport related matters before proceeding to Venezuela there was concrete interest from Moroka Swallows while Cape Town Spurs also raised their hand.

However, no agreement could be reached to bring Ali Meza back into the country.

Cape Town Spurs also showed interest, but their offer was way less than what Swallows had tabled and even way below what he had been earning while at Mamelodi Sundowns five years ago.

In taking the offer from Portuguesa, Ali Meza will earn less than the six-figure gross salary that Swallows had offered him.
