Lucas Ribeiro turns into a precious treasure in Brazil

Following an impressive display at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Lucas Ribeiro Costa is now being treated like a true treasure back home in Brazil. Here's a look!

The Story

It seems Ribeiro’s popularity has soared to new heights in recent weeks.

This follows his starring role for Mamelodi Sundowns at the Club World Cup, where he registered one goal and one assist in three games.

What stood out most, however, was his stunning solo goal — a remarkable effort that saw him dribble past several Borussia Dortmund players from his own half to score.

The goal caused quite a frenzy in Brazil, prompting widespread reaction about Ribeiro Costa and Sundowns.

His growing fame was clearly on display this past weekend, as the 26-year-old received a hero’s welcome in the municipality of Turilândia, where he seemingly hosted a schools tournament.

Hundreds of people gathered to give Ribeiro Costa a heartwarming guard of honour as he walked into a venue packed with admirers.

Ribeiro Costa has clearly assumed role model status, sharing images of some of the messages he has received from fans back home.

Some people were even seen wearing Sundowns jerseys — a clear sign that Ribeiro Costa is spreading the Masandawana name.

In a post shared by the attacker, one individual even wrote: "From the World Cup to my hometown. Many thanks for the honoured presence of this down-to-earth player, my mate."
