Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says he felt like they were playing away from home with the number of visiting supporters at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Congo seemed to have more supporters in the stands, cheering on their team, with Broos says they grew into the encounter because of the support from their fans.
Broos admits he was a little disappointed with the lack of Bafana fans and says supporters are needed in such a game.
Here's how the readers reacted to the "I had a feeling we played outside' - Broos disappointed with attendance" story:
"Stop with the press conferences and concentrate on football. You are a national coach! Act like one! Why are players like Du Preez, Blom, Hlongwane, etc. not selected? only YOU know... STOP DIVIDING SUPPORTERS and start leading!" says Sphekzen.
"Poor attendance has been an issue for over a decade now, you gonna have to accept it coach. Even TV viewership has been dwindling, hence the likes of SABC would rather broadcast a soapie during a Bafana game, because it makes more financial sense.
"South Africans now prefer other forms of entertainment, people would rather go to a Shisanyama than a soccer match. Said it a long time ago that the public is much at fault for our football's downfall as the people they point fingers at like Danny Jordaan and others," says Lesoganatsoko.
"Dear coach, No need to be arrogant if you did not choose players from a certain team. We love our national team but don't try to make us hate Bafana," says david.nemaungani.
"People were coming from work when the game started, and where are those unemployed people going to get money to buy the tickets for games?" asks Tekenya wale Downs.
"He mustn't act like he is surprised about the supporters, because that is the order of the day. People are not as excited about a weak Bafana as they are about their clubs," says Danito 4 Life.
"It's not just Bafana Bafana. Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns matches are poorly attended when they play small teams in Gauteng. If this was a big footballing country or they had played in another province, things would have been different," says Sva2022.
"SAFA and SABC are not doing their job of promoting the games and enticing the fans to attend matches. SABC SPORTS Marketing??? SAFA Marketing team???" says Sbuda 81.
"Aah that train never fails to arrive, neh. That's the biggest excuse. Fact is, people are just not interested in soccer anymore, even the PSL clubs are poorly attended, expect fans when the big three clubs play each other," says Lesoganatsoko.
"The poor attendance started a long time ago. It's not yesterday's things. Chiefs fans are just hurt because of continuous nine year drought in their shelves," says ns1owam.
"South African soccer would die without Chiefs and Pirates…!!!" says Danito 4 Life.
"The Bafana Bafana attendance has been poor for years coach. Why are you surprised now?" asks Skyvodka.
"Why are you surprised by the poor attendance Mr Coach? Chiefs fans simply stayed at home. You are solely responsible for this poor attendance, which is the record low. They are simply siding with their players.
"I am not saying this is right, but you didn't need to tell the whole world that Chiefs players do not deserve to play for Bafana. Maybe you are right, but you just didn't need to say it," says mabutimj.radebe.

Lyle Foster took his red-hot club form in the English Premier League to the national team as he scored Bafana's winner in a narrow 1-0 victory over DR Congo.
Foster started alongside Zakhele Lepasa up front with Percy Tau captaining the side. The Burnley striker scored just before the half-hour mark as he picked up a loose ball in the box and rifled it in from close range.
This win sees Bafana continue their unbeaten run that's up to nine matches now, with their last defeat coming 15 months ago against Morocco.
Here's how the readers reacted to the "Foster fires Bafana past Congo" story:
"I can't help but think of Phil Masinga's all-important goal against the Congo that took us to our very first World Cup Tournament in 1998..." says The Ghost.
"Congratulations to our team, they played well. Foster is the man of moment," says mathemusa77.
"They played iSkeem Sam on SABC. That's why they nearly missed out on the Rugby World Cup. How can they not televise a national team?" asks Dukwase.
"They televised the other game on Saturday, and I can bet the viewership was at an all-time low. So, today between guaranteed viewership from Skeem Saam or run a repeat of Saturday and lose revenue from advertising. So, they went with the money maker which in this case, seems to be Skeem Saam," replies Lesoganatsoko.
"Dankoo, you summed it up nicely baba. Fact is, Bafana is not adding any value," replies Danito 4 Life.
"Why was the game not on TV?" asks khothakhosi.
"Because there's more people watching Skeem Saam than the game," quips Lesoganatsoko.
