Chiefs' Monyane: I would do anything for this badge...

Defender Thabiso Monyane has opened up on making his competitive debut for Kaizer Chiefs, and moving from arch rivals Orlando Pirates.

The Soweto giants kicked off their 25/26 season on the front foot with a convincing 2-0 win over Stellenbosch on Sunday at Athlone Stadium.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Glody Lilepo provided the goals, but it was the defence that shone, as Aden McCarthy walked away with the Man of the Match award.

Putting in a solid shift alongside McCarthy was also Monyane. The 25-year-old joined Amakhosi from rivals Orlando Pirates in a free transfer ahead of the new season.

"Oh my, oh my, it was an electrifying game. I really enjoyed it. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for believing in me," Monyane said via the Amakhosi website.

"The boys put in a shift and we’ve come away with three points.

"As you know, my first job is to defend, so I am very happy with my defensive teammates for the clean sheet.

"For me, that’s a good day at the office. We aim to keep many more this season."

The speedy defender was developed through the Pirates academy and, aside from Amakhosi, has only ever represented the Buccaneers. He added that he is aware that it is not common for a player to make the switch.

"I see it as an opportunity for me because it is not everyone who does this. I am willing to give everything for this badge," Monyane added.

Next up for Chiefs, is their second match of the season and their first at home in the form of Polokwane City.

"We are an optimistic team and are looking to win every game. That is our objective. In football, nothing is guaranteed. We’ll take things as they come and give our best."

The match will be played at FNB Stadium.

Kick off is at 19:30.
