Ntseki explains where Chiefs' attackers are getting it wrong

Head coach Molefi Ntseki has provided his assessment of where Kaizer Chiefs' attackers are getting it wrong this season.

Amakhosi have scored just eight league goals this season – the joint second-lowest output by a team in the DStv Premiership's top eight.

Ashley Du Preez and Pule Mmodi have enjoyed most success upfront, scoring six goals and providing three assists between them. Ranga Chivaviro and Jasond Gonzalez are yet to find the back of the net.

Speaking at the Carling Knockout media briefing on Wednesday, Ntseki explained that the goal scoring crisis may not only be down to tactics, but perhaps a more psychological issue.

"Yes, I think goal scoring has been a problem, but at the same time it is the preparation, the training," Ntseki said.

"It is not only on the technical side of it, when you prepare the team when it comes to your offensive player goal scoring but it's also on the mental side of it.

"We always talk of composure but the question would be what is composure and when do you apply composure?

"It is also a very important part when it comes to those individual players. Whenever they are faced in a situation where they have to score goals, then the composure doesn't come in and the technical execution is not what is expected.

"When you look at it now when we miss one goal we get more worried of missing too many and we end up missing too many.

"So I think it is more of a mental side of it for players to understand that the chances are coming from a different angles of the game.

"It can be a chance from a set-play play it can be a chance for money to another goalkeeper it can be a chance from combination and also a chance from crosses.

"So these are the moments that we are working on. These are the moments that we feel if ever our players and the team can get a very clear understanding of where is the goal keeper when the ball comes from this angle, what is likely to happen, when the ball come from this angle.

"But the most important thing also is for us to share the responsibility because at times we tend to take everything upon ourselves and then we give away an opportunity to score.

"I think we are finishing and scoring it is something that we are working very hard on especially for our attacking players and also like I said with the set plays, we also stand a good chance of scoring goals from set plays.
