Nabi’s faulty third gear difficulty at Chiefs

If ever Nasreddine Nabi needs to turn his first season at Kaizer Chiefs from the mediocrity of last season, then he needs to find the formula of consistently getting positive results.

Right now, with the season meandering in the last third and 26 games into his tenure at Chiefs, he is still yet to manage to get into third gear by winning three in a row all season.

Wednesday night was the fourth opportunity, but just like has been the case on the three previous occasions, it ended in frustration.

"It is not the first time we have a chance to go up if we continue to win but we lose the points," highlighted Nabi about the goalless draw against Cape Town City.

"If you remember from the beginning of the season, the mistakes are continuing the same way.

"You have a chance to go up and you lose this chance, and again a chance to go up and you lose this chance.

"In this moment, you need evaluation to find out what the problem is," says Nabi.

With what happened on Wednesday, the chorus of finding an end to the inconsistency will belt out loud at Naturena as they plan for the trip to Richards Bay FC before the FIFA international break.

Though Amakhosi's progression to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup is encouraging, the matter of where they finish in the league is crucial.

Third place is there for the taking with Sekhukhune United only five points ahead, but the Soweto giants will need to pull up their socks in matters of consistency in the home stretch so that the mess of last season is forgotten.

They won just a single game in their last 10 last season under Cavin Johnson as the Glamour Boys' campaign turned horrendous.

Through that awful run, Chiefs lost five, drew five and collected a mere seven points out 30 available.

The embarrassing 10th place finish was sucked into this sequence of results, which left them with one of their worst-ever finishes to a season throughout the PSL era years.
