How in-form Chiefs plan to overcome FIFA break jinx

In-form Kaizer Chiefs have revealed plans to overcome the challenge of a FIFA international break following their impressive start to the season.

The FIFA break normally disrupts the momentum of teams who are on form - such as Chiefs, who are second on the Betway Premiership standings on goal difference, after five rounds of fixtures.

Teams that would welcome the international break are typically those still struggling, hoping to use the time off to ease pressure and introduce methods to turn things around.

The Glamour Boys, however, are banking on new energy and still an element of surprise from other new signings who are yet to feature, like Lebohang Maboe from Mamelodi Sundowns.

"Maboe, I have to say congratulations to the board. They did a very good job. They are so smart how they made the agreements," head coach Nasreddine Nabi told reporters after a narrow win over Golden Arrows on Saturday.

"Maboe is an intelligent player. We need his qualities. He comes to help us with his experience from Sundowns and now he is working with a fitness coach, soon he will be with us."

Amakhosi, who will only be back in action on 16 September against Sekhukhune United, are also awaiting legal proceedings involving Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman to conclude.

Both players have contract cases at SAFA Arbitration, after their former team Cape Town Spurs appealed the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber's decision to hand them clearances.

KickOff.com understands that Chiefs are likely to play Velebayi and Baartman once and should SAFA rule in their favour, while another new signing, Etiosa Ighodado, could recover from an injury he picked up at training when the league resumes, which has delayed his debut.

"We also have a lot of players who will get a chance to help the team - Ighodaro, Velebayi, Baartman. For sure, in the right time we will introduce them to make it easy for them," confirmed the Tunisian.
