More appeals by Spurs to freeze Velebayi & Baartman?

With Kaizer Chiefs having announced the signing of Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, KickOff has been tipped on when they are likely to feature, as Cape Town Spurs stick to their guns.

Velebayi and Baartman have officially been registered as Chiefs players after being handed their clearances through the PSL's Dispute Resolution Chamber, in their contract disputes with Spurs.

This website has been led to believe that by law, the Soweto giants are allowed to play the duo, ahead of their titanic Betway Premiership fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.

However, a source close to the matter has revealed to that the appeal by the Urban Warriors to SAFA Arbitration is likely to delay their appearances.

"No, they won't play them. They'll train, but they won't play them. They might play them once the appeal at SAFA is out of the way, they'll probably play them," revealed the source.

There is talk that legally, the Ikamva-based outfit are entitled to take their appeals further to the High Court in South Africa and even as far as the Court of Arbitration for Sport should they not be satisfied by the rulings locally.

Could that legal threat delay the careers of Velebayi and Baartman?

According to an insider privy to the matter, the Glamour Boys would have to roll up their sleeves effectively, once the SAFA appeal is done, even though there would be a lingering threat of more appeals from Spurs should they lose at SAFA.

"You can't keep on not playing the players because that affects them. If they (the players) win the appeal, why would you force them not to play?"

"You can't stop playing them because there's (potentially) more appeals."

Asked whether Chiefs could face points deductions if the now ABC Motsepe League club win their case at CAS, the source added, "That would mean taking it back to FIFA. I doubt it will go the far."
